Luke R. Bucci is the Founder & Owner of InnerPath Nutrition, clinical nutrition consulting and educational company. Dr. Bucci has over 30 years of experience in the nutrition industry encompassing all aspects of scientific applications.  For example, Dr. Bucci was primarily responsible for creating the joint health category in the mass market by introducing glucosamine+chondroitin combination products in 1991.  Dr. Bucci introduced Move Free® products and MegaRed® krill oil which are leading product brands in joint and omega-3 categories, as well as dozens of other successful dietary supplements.  Dr. Bucci has conducted preclinical and human clinical studies on effects of dietary supplements in several fields and specializes in product claim substantiation, assessing new technologies and bringing new dietary supplements to market. 

 Dr. Bucci graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences (Biochemistry and Cell Biology), from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, in 1983 followed by a double post-doctoral appointment to the Department of Experimental Radiotherapy at M.D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute (University of Texas System Cancer Center.

Dr. Bucci was Research Director for Biotics Research Corp. in Houston, Texas from 1985 to 1991.  Dr. Bucci formed InnerPath Nutrition in 1991.  In 1992, Dr. Bucci served as the first Director of Science and Quality at SpectraCell Laboratories Inc. in Houston, Texas, transferring the test from academics to application.  Dr. Bucci developed and patented Spectrox, the first commercially available test for total antioxidant function.  Dr. Bucci was Vice President, Research for Weider/Schiff Nutrition for over 17 years, and Research & Scientific Affairs Specialist after its acquisition by Reckitt Benckiser in 2013.  Dr. Bucci also was Senior Vice President of Research and Scientific Affairs for ReNew Life Formulas from 2013-2014., and Vice President, Innovation for Novel Ingredient Services from 2014-2015.

 Dr. Bucci holds several patents and patent applications on clinical laboratory testing methods and dietary supplements.  Dr. Bucci has extensive regulatory expertise and has direct experience with DEA, FDA, FTC, NAD and law firms concerning dietary supplement issues.  Dr. Bucci has taught the Dietary Supplement Laws & Regulations course at the University of Utah (NUTR 5520).

 As a recognized author and lecturer, Dr. Bucci has written four texts, eleven book chapters, over 35 peer-reviewed research journal articles, 37 abstracts, more than 100 technical journal articles, and has presented hundreds of invited lectures and discussions on a variety of topics around the world.  Dr. Bucci has given many radio and television interviews, including national live spots.  Dr. Bucci’s books include Nutrients as Ergogenic Aids in Sports and Exercise (CRC Press, 1993), Nutrition Applied to Injury Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine (CRC Press, 1994), Pain Free: The Definitive Guide to Healing Arthritis, Low-Back Pain, and Sports Injuries Through Nutrition and Supplements (The Summit Group, 1995), and Healing Arthritis the Natural Way (The Summit Group, 1997; Barnes & Noble, 2008).  In addition, he serves as the Chief Editor for Journal of Applied Nutrition.

 Dr. Bucci was awarded the Rosalie B. Hite Memorial Fellowship Merit Award for Outstanding Research in 1983 and the Certified Clinical Nutritionist of the Year Award from the International and American Associations of Clinical Nutritionists (IAACN) in 1994.  Dr. Bucci was named Employee of the Year for Weider Nutrition International in 1999, and received the James Lind Lifetime Scientific Achievement Award in 2007.  Dr. Bucci was a member of the Senior Scientific Advisory Committee for the Council for Responsible Nutrition from 2005-2011.

Dr. Bucci serves as Director of the Scientific Advisory Board for the Clinical Nutrition Certification Board.  Dr. Bucci is a member of Board for the IAACN.  Dr. Bucci currently serves as Adjunct Faculty in the Nutrition department at the University of Utah, Salt Lake CityDr. Bucci is a Certified Clinical Nutritionist, a Certified Nutrition Specialist and a Certified Chemist in Medical Technology (Associate Member), reflecting his major interests in nutrition and clinical laboratories.

 Dr. Bucci’s professional affiliations include the American College of Nutrition, American Society of Clinical Pathology, International and American Associations of Clinical Nutritionists, and the Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI).  Hobbies include World War Two naval history and raising and rescuing French bulldogs.
